1. Start by narrowing your topic. Here's the thing, sales leads are much easier to get once you have narrowed your target audience. Find out what these people want. Once you have an idea of the kind of information they are looking for, you can target them with that information in the form of an article, advertisement, blog post, etc. The idea is to target their exact needs and wants.

2. Research some keywords. Once you have a general idea of what they want, the next step will be for you to select some keywords that these people use to search for information online. This is how you will get yourself in-front of them and get sales leads.

3. Choose a marketing method. How are you going to market to these people. Will it be through PPC marketing, blogging, article marketing, (my favorite!) forum marketing, or web 2.0? Whatever method you use, make sure that you test and track everything. In fact, this is the only way you can find out which method gets sales leads better.

4. Create a plan. In order to compete with all the other online marketers out there, you will need a plan. What kind of goals do you have in place? How many sales would you like to generate in a month? Developing a plan that gives you a set of actions to take each day is very effective at keeping motivated. To get sales leads to your business, I suggest that you test at least 5 traffic sources, like the examples above. Once you have some results in, choose the winning source.

5. Take action. Unlike what you might have heard, marketing is not a "sit on your butt and watch the money roll in" kind of thing. I see so many people fail to make it online simply because they work when they feel like it. Please... don't do this. Set a work schedule and stick with it. I treat my business like a real job. I get up at 6:00AM ever morning and write 10-15 articles, then I work on other things until 4:00PM. To get sales leads, you'll need to do the same thing.

6. Massive marketing is the key. When you are first starting out, it's important that you take massive action online. However, don't burn yourself out either. Follow your plan and carry out your daily tasks. It might look something like this: Write articles for 3 hours, work on creating products for 2 hours, write emails for 1 hour, check stats for 30 minutes, check email account for 30 minutes, and research some new topics for 1 hour.
